“We’re not trying to figure out how to make cheaper shows. We’re trying to figure out how to make better television.”
This article compares Netflix to the likes of HBO and Showtime, and I really hope they’re right. Ordering entire series instead of just a pilot that may or may not fail based on questionable ratings systems, airing full seasons all at once (“Part of the experience of waiting for the next episode [forces] the need to create artificial cliffhangers [that] ultimately dilute the storytelling.”)…this seems like business that’s truly good for both the company and its consumers. It’s a MUCH better idea than that time they were going to call their instant watch service something completely different, or whatever.
But “it could also wind up being a big thud heard round the world. Who knows?” (-Kevin Spacey, on topic)
